ABSTRACT
Selective transmission of a prescribed orbital angular momentum (OAM)-compatible guided family in a ring-core fiber is complicated by neighboring vector modes with comparable propagation characteristics. We consider a finite, longitudinally uniform multilayer ring-core segment in which the radial refractive-index profile controls phase accumulation and subsequent recombination of guided modal components. The structure is described using a full-vector cylindrical Maxwell model combined with interface mode matching and an open-guided treatment of radiative components. For the optimized five-layer segment at =1550 nm, the selected HE21-based OAM-com¬patible guided family reaches a same-mode guided output transmission of Tt≈0.83, whereas the largest transmission among the competing HE11, TE01, and TM01 modes is Tworst≈0.01. This corresponds to a modal extinction ratio (MER) of 19.28 dB. The calculated waveguide/modal selectivity interval is approximately 1548.254–1554.432 nm under fixed refractive indices, while fabrication-induced detuning can be partly compensated by adjusting the segment length. These results demonstrate that a finite-length radially multilayered ring-core fiber section can provide interference-based selective transmission of a prescribed guided modal family
