Abstract. Ferroelastic phase transitions in single crystals of RbIn(MoO4)2 have been studied by means of polarised light microscopy. Investigations of morphology and temperature evolution of domain structures in three ferroelastic phases of RbIn(MoO4)2 have been performed. Orientation of optical indicatrix axes corre-sponding to refractive indices ng and nm has been found and optical birefringence measured in (0001) plane in the temperature range covering all of the ferroelastic phases

Keywords: ferroelastics, domain structure, birefringence, trigonal double molybdates
