The paper is devoted to the study of the combined piezoelectrooptical effect in LiNbO3 and LiTaO3 crystals induced by the mutual influence of the electric field and mechanical strain. The coefficients of the combined piezoelectrooptical effect were determined as N313=3.6*10-18m3/NV  for lithium niobate crystals and N313=4.8*10-18m3/NV obtained from dependence of piezooptical coeffecients on the electrical field as well as N313=4.32*10-18m3/NV obtained from dependence of electrooptical coefficients on the mechanical strain for LiTaO3 crystals. It was shown that at the bias field E3=1.2*106V/m the piezooptical coefficient P31=0 changes the sign for LiNbO3 crystals as well as in LiTaO3 crystals at E3=1.6*106V/m p31=0 and at s1=2.5*107N/m2 the electrooptical coeffecient r33=0. It is shown that the change of electrooptical coefficients under the mechanical strain and that of piezooptical coefficients under the electrical field are interchangeable effects.

Key words: piezoelectrooptical effect, lithium niobate, lithium tantalate, combined effect.
